July 3, Day 32: Sterling to Cassoday (98 miles)

Thankfully woke up to a gloomy morning and only light headwind. We are really glad we stayed off route in Sterling instead of Nickerson because like James said yesterday, “You ain’t missing NOTHING in Nickerson.”

Stopped in Buhler hoping to find food but everything was closed since it was Sunday. Made bean burritos.

In Hesston we took a short cut on Old 81 straight to Newton. It saved us 5 miles but we had to ride on a busy road with no shoulder.

Cheesy pasta with bell pepps and salad for dinner. The city park we were at was pretty basic and there were no restrooms. Kids were lighting fireworks next to us.

Cassoday is also prairie chicken capital! Or so their sign says. We didn’t see any.
